Laude killer Pemberton faces Bilibid transfer once VFA axed

Once the US-Philippines Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) officially removed, convict Joseph Scott Pemberton should be transferred to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, Attorney Harry Roque said Tuesday.

Serving as the legal counsel of transgender Jennifer Laude’s family, Roque hopes that after the six month period, VFA will be fully terminated, resulting in Pemberton’s transfer to “where he belongs.”

Pemberton was charged six to 12 years of imprisonment after being found guilty in a 2014 case.

Laude is a 26-year-old Filipino transgender who met US Marine Pemberton who visited the Philippines for a military exercise as part of VFA. The two went to a motel in Olongapo City for a short time, where Laude was found lifeless 30 minutes later. The court claims that Pemberton killed Laude by strangulation.
